ROLL IN: VANS BOWL-A-RAMA BONDI
With the week of events and all the action building up to the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi just starting, it’s time to bring you a daily dose of something special. “Roll In” is a short webisode clip released every afternoon leading up to the iconic bowl contest held on Saturday the 25th of February. “Roll In” will deliver a fresh view from The Festival of Skateboarding, showing the free sessions, the parties, the wild times and all the people behind them.
Episode 1: Dew AM Jam:
World Vert Champion, Renton Millar, takes you behind the scenes of the Dew AM Jam. Renton explains how it was established, what it means to the groms and who took out the final spot.
The Dew AM Jam kicked off at Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi in 2011 as part of Mt Dew skater Renton Millar’s quest to give up and coming Aussie bowl and vert skaters a chance he’d never had when he started skating: the opportunity to be recognized and supported in your home country.
Essentially it is a showcase of a handful of a maximum of 8 of Australia’s top under 18 bowl riders invited to skate alongside the pros right before the masters and pro finals at the World Cup of Skateboarding (WCS) Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi contest.
Each skater is invited through a two-month selection process, which has involved Renton Millar’s Drop In sessions at Skateparks in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales and through the contest results from the Hurley Australian Bowl-riding Championships.
Every skater who makes it through to and skates at this event is rewarded with a $500 DEW EFTPOS card to help support their endeavours.
The 20-minute Jam format gives each skater a no holds barred opportunity to push their limits without having to try to do the “stuff to please the judges” and supports expression and camaraderie as each has earned their place leading into this event through competition and Drop In performances.
